Raising Hope from the Rooftop: The Branch County Coalition Roof Sit Fundraiser
Every year, our community comes together for something a little out of the ordinary—our Executive Director, Kim Hemker, along with WTVB’s Ken Dulaney, and the Maynard Family willingly camp out on the Coldwater McDonald’s rooftop for hours at a time. No, they haven’t lost their minds! They’re taking a stand—literally—against domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse through the Branch County Coalition Roof Sit Fundraiser.
This year, the Roof Sit will take place on March 14th from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Maynard Family McDonald’s in Coldwater. Our executive director will be sitting on the roof, while our team will be on the ground collecting donations and engaging with the community. This event is a powerful way to “Rise Up” and raise awareness for our Altrusa Teen Share Program and Character Education Program.
Why a Roof Sit?
The idea behind a roof sit is powerful—when someone is experiencing violence in their home, they often feel trapped with nowhere to turn. By standing on a rooftop, participants symbolize the desperate need for safety and visibility. They stay up there to remind our community that no one should feel alone in their struggle. The funds raised help ensure that emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and prevention programs remain available for those who need them most.
How You Can Get Involved
- Sponsor a 15-Minute Segment: For $125, donors can sponsor a 15-minute segment and receive promotion on the radio and Facebook.
You don’t have to climb a roof to make a difference (though if you want to, we won’t stop you!). Here are a few ways you can support the Roof Sit Fundraiser:
- Donate: Every dollar helps provide services to survivors in our community.
- Sponsor a Rooftop Participant: Encourage your favorite brave soul by contributing to their fundraising goal.
- Spread the Word: Share posts, tell your friends, and talk about why this cause matters.
- Attend the Event: Check in with one of our staff members for opportunities to learn more about local resources.
Making an Impact
The money raised from the Roof Sit Fundraiser directly supports programs that provide emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and education. It also helps fund prevention efforts, ensuring that young people have access to healthy relationship education and resources before abuse ever begins.
