Needed Documents for food applications: (processed in 30 days or 7 days if expedited)
- Current bank statements (within 30 days)
- Statement must include client’s name, bank name, portion of account number and current balance
- Verification of any income they receive. Must submit 30 days. If they’re employed, need 30 days of consecutive check stubs
- Title or registration for any vehicles in their name
- If they pay rent, they’ll need a copy of their current lease and copy of their heat and electric bill
- *Remind client their DHHS worker will be calling them to conduct a telephone interview. Expedites the process if they’re expecting the call and they can answer.
State Emergency Relief (processed within 7 days)
- Must submit current bank statement
- If they’re applying for rent and security deposit, DHHS will require a statement from the shelter verifying they’re homeless and residing in shelter. (or court ordered eviction notice)
- Shut off notices for heat and electric can only be processed during crisis season:
- November 1st through May 31st. DHHS can possibly pay an old heat or electric bill so the client can get the utility in their name, at their new place. To apply for this, the client must submit a statement from the landlord verifying the client is required to get the utility in their own name.
- DHHS worker will be calling for interview, advise clients to expect and answer call.
Cash Applications
- Clients will be referred to the PATH program (unless they’re disabled)
- They can be deferred from participating in the PATH program if they’re DV clients. The worker will need a letter from the shelter verifying the client is receiving services.
- In many instances however, the PATH program can be a good thing for the client, as they offer many classes for work skills and they can assist with transportation once they become employed.
- Client must participate with the PATH program for 21 days before their cash will be approved and must continue to be compliant with PATH to keep their cash assistance.
- Client can apply for child care assistance as well.
Clients do not need to have all the documents to apply. They can apply and submit the documents as soon as they can. If they know what they have to submit and get them turned in quicker, it can expedite the process.
